Instruction for authors

  1. Salud y drogas / Health and addictions publish empirical and review manuscripts with scientific rigor, which are related to the overall objectives of the journal.
  2. The manuscripts submitted to Salud y drogas / Health and addictions should be unedited, they should not be published previously, and they should not be considered for publication elsewhere. Articles are accepted in Spanish, English and Portuguese.
  3. The manuscripts should not exceed 30 pages including figures, tables and illustrations. The papers will have to be double spaced, on one side, with margins of 3 cm and numbered the upper right.
  4. The manuscripts have to be presented according to the APA guides for publication (Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 2001, 5th edition).
  5. The first page of the manuscript should include the title, author’s names and author’s affiliation with complete mailing address for correspondence. The second and third page should include an abstract in Spanish and English, not exceeding 200 words with a maximum of five keywords. The figures and tables (one per sheet) should be located at the end of the manuscript, correlatively numbered, and indicating their location in the text.
  6. Manuscripts should use the scientific reports schema: a) Title, authors and institutional affiliation, b) Abstracts in English and Spanish. c) Text organized in 1) Introduction 2) Method 3) Results 4) Discussion 5) References.

    a) For books:

    Author, Initials and Author, initials. (Year). Book title (in italics). City: Publisher.

    Example: Klingemann, H. and Sobell, L. C. (2007). Promoting self-change from addictive behaviors: Practical implications for policy, prevention, and treatment. New York: Springer.

    b) For book chapters:

    Author, Initials and Author, initials. (year). Chapter title. In Initials Surname Author (Ed.), Book title in italics (pp. pages of chapter). City: Publisher.

    Example: Sobell, L. C. (2007). The phenomenon of self-change: Overview and key issues. In H. K. Klingemann and L. C. Sobell (Eds.). Promoting self-change from addictive behaviors: Practical implications for policy, prevention, and treatment. New York: Springer.

    c) For journal articles:
    Author, Initials and Author, initials. (year). Title of the article. Name of journal in italics, volume in italics, pp.

    Example: Secades-Villa, R., Garcia Fernandez, G., García-Rodríguez, O., Alvarez Carriles, J. C., and Sanchez Hervás, E. (2008). Neuropsychological performance of patients in treatment for cocaine addiction. Salud y drogas / Health and addictions, 8 (1), 11-28.

  7. Manuscripts will be sent by email to:

  8. Manuscripts will be reviewed anonymously by independent experts. To maintain the blind evaluation, the name and affiliation of the authors will appear only on the first page. The authors should avoid the text containing the key or identity suggestions.
  9. Upon receipt of the manuscript, acknowledged will be send to the corresponding author, sending response of acceptance or rejection within a maximum of 2 months from reception. Eventually the final acceptance may depend on improvements or changes to the manuscript that the reviewers or the editorial board proposes to the author.
  10. When a manuscript is accepted for publication, the copyright in any form will be property of Salud y drogas / Health and addictions, which shall not refuse any reasonable request by the author for permission of reproduction of their contributions.
  11. The opinions expressed in articles are the sole responsibility of the authors and do not jeopardize the scientific and political opinion journal. The activities described in published papers will be in accordance with generally accepted standards of ethics, both in regard to animal and human experiments and in matters relating to professional conduct.
