Resumen

Introducción. La población mundial experimenta un amento de Personas Adultas Mayores (PAM) de un 12% a un 22% para el año, 2050. Se observa un incremento de las enfermedades de salud mental, tales como la depresión, ansiedad y estrés en este grupo poblacional. Objetivo. Conocer las técnicas basadas en Mindfulness y sus efectos en la salud mental de la PAM. Método. Realizado a través de la Prefered Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA); Se incluyeron ensayos clí­nicos aleatorizados y no aleatorizados con aplicación de técnicas basadas en Mindfulness que tuvieran un efecto en la salud mental; búsqueda realizada en las bases de datos: MedLine/PubMed, Wiley, Science Direct, Biblioteca Virtual de Salud (BVS) y otras; evaluación del riesgo de sesgo conforme a los lineamientos de Cochrane. Resultados. Se incluyeron 13 artí­culos en donde se encontró que las técnicas basadas en Mindfulness tienen un efecto positivo en la salud mental de la PAM, donde la técnica de Reducción de Estrés Basada en Mindfulness MBSR fue la más empleada. Conclusiones. Se recomienda el uso de técnicas basadas en Mindfulness como una opción con fundamento cientí­fico y de bajo costo para mejorar la salud mental de la PAM.
